Dr. Diane Hodge and Ms. Kristen Yoder:
“Surveying Mental Health Resources for Women”

An exploratory, qualitative questionnaire survey was conducted in a rural Southwest Virginia area to ascertain the availability and type of mental health services specifically for women with children. Mental health practitioners were asked for information that included how they accommodate women with children to improve access, the types of therapy they use with women, and the unique issues that women bring to therapy. This study will be contrasted with findings in the literature. Suggestions for assisting rural women with children who seek improved mental health will also be provided.
