ADDING
IT UP: ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF SEXUAL ASSAULT Liz Karns MPH, JD |
||
Presentation Abstract | ||
Sexual assault survivors experience a reduced income of hundreds
of thousands of dollars over their lifetime—resulting from career plan
changes, persistent health issues, and more. Join Cornell University
Social Statistics lecturer Liz Karns to learn more about a side of
sexual assault that is rarely discussed: the economics. From interrupted
classes to lifetime health impacts the costs add up to a staggering
amount. Karns will draw on her background in statistics and as lawyer
representing sexual assault victims as they seek acknowledgment of their
injuries. Focus on evidence from the courtroom and social sciences that
allows an understanding of the real costs that can follow after an
assault. |
