Presentation Abstract &
Research Interest Dr. Lawson will present an overview of gendered occupational segregation, discuss corresponding social problems at the individual, family, business, and societal levels, and present research that has examined the development of gendered occupational choices of both men and women, the role of gendered childhood experiences with parents, and preliminary results of new research examining department-level contextual factors that have helped women pursuing gender atypical majors succeed. "Very broadly, I am interested in the associations among work, family, and gender across the lifespan. This has led to two lines of research: the role of family and gender in the occupational choices of children/adolescents/young adults and the associations between work and family in middle adulthood, including work-family spillover.... As a new faculty member at Ball State, I am particularly interested in continuing to pursue research that examines gender atypical occupational choices. " Katie Lawson , September 2015 |
