Abstract. As previous studies have documented, many factors contribute to an adolescents’ decision to sign a virginity pledge. Previous sexual behavior, peer influences, familial and social support have all been identified as predictors. Yet, despite the obstacles between those within GLUT communities and marriage, many still commit to a hetro-normative structure of virginity and marriage. Researchers explore the parallels and differences of sexual decision making of GLT and heterosexual adolescents with the use of data collected as part of the The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (AddHealth), Wave III. Responses from individuals who self-identified as gay, lesbian, or bisexual were analyzed in this study.
