by
Josie Loomis & Lisa Pluska
Presentation Abstract

This presentation will provide an overview of the responsibilities of a Compliance Officer as related to complaint procedures within the school system. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits harassment of students or employees based on sex, gender, race, color, national origin, disability, religion, ancestry, age, marital status, or genetic information, or any other characteristics protected by law, or based on a belief that such characteristics exist at school, or any school sponsored activity. The presentation will also provide information on Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. § 1681), which is a federal law that prohibits discrimination in employment as well as in all programs and activities on the basis of sex.
