Development and Philosophy of the Gender Studies Website
by
Hilary Lips with Wayne Andrew
Since its inception in the early 1990s, for more than 25 years, this website has been developed, maintained, and nurtured by Wayne Andrew. Now one of the oldest and most continuous online sites concerning gender studies, this collection of Web pages has effectively spread the word nationally and internationally about RU Gender research  activities. Propelled by memories of the impact of sexism on Wayne's own mother and sister, and aware of its continuing destructive force, Wayne has been motivated to devote his time and effort to pushing back against gender stereotyping and discrimination by promoting good gender science and scholarship. Thus, over the years, with the backing of Radford University Senior Management, he has geared the website toward highlighting, advancing, and celebrating the gender research and analysis that students and faculty, both at Radford University and elsewhere, have done. Wayne is proud of and grateful to these researchers and scholars who have shared their work with and through the website. The coverage devoted to them on this website is aimed at publicizing faculty, students and their work, helping them to connect with others who share their interests, and encouraging them to persist. Such coverage also provides a detailed and living history of gender-related scholarly activities within Radford University. In short, it tells our story as well as the stories of those engaged in this important work.
